Braun Silk Epil 5 Review

Hey, girl! Welcome to another review. Today, we’ll be discussing the features, upsides, downsides, and everything else you need to know about the Braun Silk Epil 5. This Braun Silk Epil 5 review will make sure you make the right epilator decisions! 🙂

This amazing epilator is the first low-priced Braun epilator to be waterproof, and it is the predecessor of the top epilators in the market, namely the Braun Silk Epil 7 and the Braun Silk Epil 9.

All epilators in the new generation of Braun Sil Epil 5 come with the SensoSmart technology, but today we’ll be talking about the beloved previous model, Braun Silk Epil 5 Wet&Dry 5-541.

Key Features of Braun Silk Epil 5

When people ask me, I always describe the Braun Silk Epil 5 as a fierce and pretty epilator.

Among the several models available, we can get to choose between lovely colors such as deep purple, baby blue, and details in pinkish red.

Besides the wide color variety, the Braun Silk Epil 5 also features several amazing characteristics that tell us why Braun is such an acclaimed and loved brand of epilators.

Wet and dry

Braun Silk Epil 5 wet use in shower

A big innovation, the Silk Epil 5 was the first mid-priced epilator of the brand that was also waterproof.

This means that the Braun Silk Epil 5 can be used under the shower or not – which makes cleaning easier, as well as allows for a less painful experience when epilating under the hot water.

If you are new to epilation, you must know that it can be very uncomfortable in the very first times. Wet and dry epilators like the Braun Silk Epil 5 make these experiences go lighter, because the hot water opens up the pores, making it easier for the hair to be plucked out of the skin.

Cordless

The Braun Silk Epil 5 model we’re reviewing is cordless a.k.a. an epilator to be used anywhere!

However, Braun also provides us with a corded option (actually not the best option, because it doesn’t offer more power or functionality).

We’ll see the differences between models later in the article.

Included attachments

Braun Silk Epil 5-541 Epilator and Accessories

Attachments in epilators are always great things to have. With the Braun Silk Epil 5 is no different, so let’s check what it has to offer.

• Skin contact Cap: as the name says, it is the cap that stays in contact with the skin in case you want to have a smoother experience. I typically remove this cap only to clean the epilator head.

• Massage Cap: a cap designed for beginners in epilation, the massage cap in the Silk Epil 5 pivots, and has a few massage rollers that prevent the plucking sensation caused by the tweezers.

• Shaver Head: the shaver head replaces the epilation head and allows for the removal of hairs from more sensitive areas that you don’t want to epilate.

• Trimmer cap: you can use this cap with the shaver head to trim longer hairs prior to epilator or just to trim hairs you like to keep in the body.

Differences Between Braun Silk Epil 5 Models

There are two models for each Silk Epil 5 type of epilator, there is the Silk Epil 5 Wet&Dry 5-541 and 5-511, and the Silk Epil 5 Power 5-280 and 5-185. We have been reviewing the first and most common model, the Braun Silk Epil 5 Wet&Dry 5-541.

Silk Epil 5 Wet&Dry

Braun Silk Epil 5-541 Epilator and Accessories

This Braun Silk Epil 5 Review is based around this model. It comes with a purple rubber grip, 28 tweezers (which is not much), and all the attachments we mentioned before. This model can be used wet and dry, and it is cordless.

Braun Silk Epil 5 Wet&Dry 5-511 Epilator

Also wet and dry and cordless, the only differences between the 5-511 and the 5-541 are the attachments and the baby blue rubber grip (which I think is super cute!).

Besides the basic charging cable and cleaning brush, this model comes only with the skin contact cap. It is typically sold as a starter kit epilator for the Braun Silk Epil 5, so if you’d like more accessories try the 541 and Power 5780 models.

Silk Epil 5 Power

Braun Silk Epil 5 Power 5-280 Epilator

The “Power” in this model already tells you the main difference between the Epil 5 Power models and the Epil Wet&Dry models: the first ones are corded.

Another difference between the Power and the Wet&Dry models is the number of tweezers – while the Wet and dry epilators offer only 28 tweezers, the Power epilators come with 40 smaller tweezer heads – which is no better.

The Braun Silk Epil 5 Power is not a good option: besides sacrificing mobility, it also comes at a higher price point.

The 5-280 model features some attachments we saw earlier, such as the massage cap, shaver head, and a trimmer cap. Besides these three, it includes an efficiency cap.

Braun Silk Epil 5 Power 5780 Epilator

The Braun Silk-Epil 5 Power 5780 Epilator is the premium 5 model and is an improvement on the Power 5-280 model.

It contains more features and accessories than other models and comes in white and green. The accessories include a shaver head and trimmer cap, a sensitive area cap, a facial cap, a massage cap, a skin contact cap and a cooling glove.

Braun Silk Epil 5 Power 5-185

Exactly the same device as the Silk Epil 5 Power 5-280, the 5-185 model comes with only one attachment: the massage cap.
